My current series, Below the Horizon investigates both the optical and the psychological impression of the landscape. I like the inflicted explanations created by the meaning of a sunset. It can suggest the end of something or it could represent the open interpretation for something to begin the following day. These dualities of endings and beginnings concerns my paintings and photographs with the time of day that harbors no physical aspect of the sun, but rather the disappearance of it beyond the earths horizon.
Color is the leading factor within my work, for it reinforces the emotional element of elation from the radiance of the sunset, co-mingled with melancholy and apprehension as the dark contours of the night settles in. Constructing an emotion, either joyful or sorrow in my work defines this series by using the expression of color of the earths sky at twilight.
